The South African Bellhousing
This is the bellhousing, as it is used by VW South Africa to mount their 2.6 Liter five cylinder engine into the Microbus. It fits in between any Audi style five cylinder engine and Vanagon gearbox. But before you can mount it, the Audi flywheel have to be modified. It is too thick and have to be machined.
This is the bellhousing, seen from engine side. It fits near perfect to the Audi engine. All holes fits, the mounting surface is a little bit different, but it seals the champer all the circle round. The original Audi starter fits into the left circle. The rear end looks like the Vanagon bellhousing. The shaft sealing of the previous housing have to be removed carefully and be mounted on same place in the new housing. The release shaft is to be mounted with all it's bearings as usual.
The surface and all mounting are desinged to be mounted on all kinds of Vanagon gearboxes. It had to be sealed before mounting. On the lower end you can see the thread for the oil drain plug. The two mounting holes on top of the release input shaft hole are for securing the mounting plate for the clutch slave valve, too. The original mounting plate won't fit any more.
