Fuelpump Arrangement
The black fuelpump and the white pressure regulator are disassembled from the wracked Audi. Even the fuel lines are Audi originals. But, as in the Audi both were mouted side by side, in the Vanagon I mounted the pressure regulator on top of the fuel pump. This was caused by the exhaust pipe and less space behind the fuel tank. In front of the fuel pump I welded an arm for the rubber exhaust hanger. The fuel pump should be mounted with rubber silencer, otherwise the noise will drive me crazy.

This is the rear view to the mounting plate. The left retangular cut on the silver aluminium plate is need to clear space for the plastic cooling pipes. The upper two screws secures the pressure regulator, the third and most bottom behind the L-shaped bar mounts the fuel pump. The most left is only to secure the aluminium plate on that end. The vertical part of the support bar fits the Vanagon frame rail, and the upper mounting hole meets a ready drilled hole in the frame rail. For the second lower screw I had to drill a small hole into the frame rail.

This is the arrangement in full length, seen from the front or from fuel tank. The support bar looks like the bar I got to mount the 85l South African fuel tank, which I never mounted. The tank would interfere with the exhaust pipes. This bar I mounted as close to the fuel tank as possible. The exhaust support on the bar meets the front turn back pipe of the exhaust system. The bar reaches both frame rails of the Vanagon, where it is mounted with two screws each side. My old original fuel tank was rusty and I replaced it with a Diesel tank. But both only provides a thin fuel flange of 6mm, as the fuel pump requires a 10mm fuel hose on the input. I got the tip to feed the fuel pump from both tank connections, fuel feed and fuel return. This will avoid flow limitations. |
