VW Bus Engine Swap to AUDI 5E

    Accelerator Cable Modification

    Mounted Lever; 27.0k

The accelerator cable have to be modified. The throttle body of the Audi engine is at the most left side of the engine compartment. The cable have to be replaced by a longer one, and I found a multi purpose steel cable at a DIY store, sold on a per meter basis. Other sources might be bicycle stores. The front end includes a adjusting rod. The original part can't be used anymore. I soldered a brass pipe with the outer diameter of the adjusting rod onto the steel cable. They fit the clamping pin and acts as usual.

    Modified Lever; 24.3k

Not only the length, the pull distance have to be modified, too. A simple way is to length one arm of the lever wich drives the cable. Therefore I uncreased the two bends and added a piece of aluminium with clamping pin mounting point in a greater distance from the pivot. The new arm is secured by U-shaped cut wich meets the pivot rod and a screw half way to the other end.

    Throttle Pulley; 24.7k

I added an extension for the protective hose, too, and it extens into the engines compartment. The hose enters beside the cooling pipes and describes a large curve with a great diameter to the top of the engine. The extension hose came from the Audi and this makes it easy to slip it into the regular mounting brackets. Both protective hoses are shielded with a fuel hose at their meeting points. The fuel hose does have the right inner diameter to keep the protective hoses in place and prevents the cable from going around sharp bends.

    Throttle Pulley; 19.1k

At the throttle body's end the cable got a brass pipe, too. All other parts are stock Audi. The lower throttle rod unterneath the throttle pully belongs to the auto cruise control. It is not active right now, but the electronics will be added in near future.
